DECLARATION OF THE BETTER LIBERTARIAN PLATFORM
2009
PREAMBLE
- The Libertarian Party’s platform essentially would sustain and rebuild the freedom the Constitution gave us, but it would then do nothing to defend that Constitution or freedom from aggressors.
- The Libertarian Party doesn’t care when individual freedom is infringed somewhere else in the world. Yet they complain of the U.S. infringing freedom across the world when we intervene, we are at a loss with this stance. Do they care about the freedom of humanity or don’t they?
- The Libertarian Party does not represent what libertarianism was intended for, nor does it represent the broad libertarian movement at all, this needs to change.
- The Libertarian Party does not represent the Constitution, the Founders, the Republic, freedom, liberty, John Locke, Thomas Paine nor any other undeniable virtue or patriot. We draft this declaration in order to bring them back to true freedom, liberty, and justice.
THE DECLARATION
We, the Libertarian Defense Caucus, on this day of independence, in order to attain a more perfect liberty loving political party, make ourselves declarants of,
- LAISSEZ-FAIRE FREE MARKETS – The government has no right to infringe or constrain the economic freedom of law-abiding individuals nor the free market in this country.
- RUGGED INDIVIDUALISM – ‘Group rights’, or so they are called, do not exist because groups do not really exist, there are only individuals. Any legislation that is made to advance the ‘rights’ of a group only infringes the rights of individuals.
- LIBERAL NEUTRALITY – Government should not promote any one kind of conception of the good. It promotes ideal of thinking, belief, or what the fulfillment of life is.
- NIGHT WATCHMAN STATE – The ideal state is one that is minimized to the point where, if it where any smaller, would become a form of anarchy. Such a state’s only purpose in her existence is to protection of the natural rights to our life, liberty, and property.
- AN INTERPLAY – We advocate a state actor that has very innovative, capable and effective military forces at its disposal for national defense, reactive and pro-active actions against threats to said nation’s citizens, its interest(s), foreign allies, the balance of power and the maximization of individual freedom. It must look to constantly improve itself militarily, tactically, and strategically in the terms pointed out in Sun Tzu’s Art of War. It also encourages its citizens to help in their own overall individual defense. As an arbiter of her survivability, her people’s state of society, and individual liberty, she should be bound by the same moral rules as individuals are in everyday life when confronted with violent criminals, and the Constitution. Also, those of us at the LDC advocate a minimization of international law and organizations and an abolition of all trade barriers between peoples.
- VETERANS’ SUFFRAGE – We support an increase in the societal vigilance and advocacy relating to the medical, financial, legacy, and overall well-being of our military families, veterans and active defenders of liberty out in action today.
We, the Libertarian Defense Caucus, hold these tenets to be true, factual, and self-evident towards freedom, the Constitution, and libertarianism/classical liberalism.
We, the Libertarian Defense Caucus, an institution composed of small-l-libertarians, Big-L-Libertarians, Republicans, and Classical Liberals, and we declare these tenets to be the Better Libertarian Platform for the Libertarian Party of the United States of America. It shall be the only platform we rcognize as Libertarian. All other platforms are recognized as “un-Libertarian”.
